Community of Practice: From Armed Forces to Service Management – making your skillset count

As part of our proud commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, itSMF UK recently formed a Community of Practice to bring together military veterans, reservists, employers and service providers with an interest in supporting those transitioning from the Forces to mainstream service management.

Drawing on this important initiative, this online event explores both practitioner and corporate views, identifying the opportunities and challenges involved in making the move from the military world to Civvy Street:

• CoP chair Cristan Massey, Head of Service Delivery (Product) at cinch and a reservist NCO in 75 Engineer Regiment, talks about his own journey from the military to corporate service management, the lessons learnt along the way, and about the transferrable skills that he has been able to draw on as his career developed.
• itSMF UK board member Valerie Wilson, Head of UK Operations at BT and a former Army reservist officer, takes a look at the subject from a company perspective. Like many large employers, Val’s team in BT runs transition workshops for those entering civilian life, helping them to adjust to a different routine, assisting with CVs and job applications, offering appropriate training, and introducing them to a range of job openings that will use their skillset to the full.

In this one-hour event, our speakers will consider what needs to be done to help those with a military background to hone their service management skills in new organisations.
