Plaiting fog is British slang for the impossible task; something that defies the bounds of possibility. It’s a term that is often associated with supplier management. In an ‘as-a-service’ world it means trying to get a supply chain to flow. It means attempting to get disparate organisations with different cultures to work harmoniously together.
Approaches that square this circle have extremes ranging from the draconian ‘beat your supplier with a big stick’ to a quiescent ‘lie down and play dead our supplier knows best’. We’ve seen most of them and as a result itSMF UK have created this session which will attempt to lay down some guiding principles to help you get started with supplier management.
Barry Corless is a former Chair of itSMF UK and greatly respected service management specialist. He has written and delivered supplier management education for both commercial training companies and higher education courses. He was also a contributory author to the original version of the Service Integration and Management (SIAM) guidelines.
He draws on his experiences ranging from retail, public sector, and IT service provider to illustrate the good practices he describes in the session.
