Online Event – Home Truths: Big Projects or Continual Improvement? – Lunch & Learn

19 March, 12:00 - 13:00
Free

When we improve our own homes, we are deeply invested in the outcome. Decisions about vision, budget, disruption, sustainability and long-term value feel very real because we live with the consequences every day. This session uses the contrast between major house renovation and ongoing home improvement to explore a familiar challenge in IT Service Management: the tension between large, transformational programmes and incremental, continual improvement.

In the first session we follow Richard Horton’s journey as he aims for an AECB Carbonlite Retrofit, the first resident in his locality to do so, and ask whether the project has delivered. What has gone into seeking compliance with this standard and making it sustainable from an eco perspective? Does that correlate with making it easy to live in? What might that have to say about our approach to large projects at work?

Next, we look at continual improvement. Big projects are exciting if you have the time, money and senior management buy-in,  but probably not the starting point for most of us. We may want to tick all the maturity boxes at once, but the rate at which real change can be achieved is likely to be much slower. How can we size and develop our ITSM projects effectively, with an eye on budgets, resources and continual improvement?

Key Takeaways

Participants will come away with:

  • An insight into how setting a clear vision influences outcomes and expectations.
  • A better appreciation of stakeholder engagement, from early buy-in to living with the results.
  • Lessons in supplier management and the realities behind contracts and standards.
  • An understanding of validation and measurement – how to know when something really works.
  • Start where you are: always good advice!
  • Certification: why do it and how to make it add value.

And as a non-ITSM bonus, how far can you go with an eco-retrofit.
