Setting up a Configuration Management Database (CMDB) is a daunting task, and the effort involved in the planning and implementation stages can be a real deterrent. But by taking small steps, putting the right tooling in place, and ensuring the support of key stakeholders, a CMDB can quickly prove its value to the enterprise.
Join us for our next Online Member Meet-up: Why do you need a CMDB and how do you derive value from it? itSMF UK are delighted to welcome John Jenkins and Jim Donnelly from Allstate Northern Ireland and Chris Kingsbury from CGI, who will explain how to get started with your CMDB and how to ensure that it continues to support changing business needs.
Presentation 1 – Benefits of a CMDB – Chris Kingsbury
A non-IT focussed walkthrough of how your CMDB can provide benefits across your organisation and the things you can focus on to get there. Many organisations have a challenge where Configuration and Asset Management is a practice rarely used outside of selected Service Management and IT teams. We will cover the aspects you can consider when building your CMDB and how capturing information today can assist with using data to achieve your desired business outcomes.
Presentation 2 – Implementation and driving value – Jim Donnelly
What happens when an Enterprise already has a CMDB but needs to implement enhancements to keep pace with changing business needs, new technologies or cloud?
This presentation will focus on the lessons learned from updating an existing CMDB in a large Enterprise and how to provide value back to stakeholders such as Security and Finance.
Breakout discussion
Once the presentations have concluded, we’ll invite attendees to break out into two groups to discuss the topics and questions raised. John will lead one breakout group for those wishing to share experience and Chris will lead the second.
A brief summary of the key discussion/learning points from each breakout group will be shared before bringing the event to a close.
