Member Event – Higher Education – Student on-Boarding: Surviving the rush

On-boarding hundreds or thousands of students is a challenge that all universities face at the start of the academic year, and service management teams play a key role in ensuring that this process runs as smoothly as possible.

Incoming students take it for granted that they will instantly receive access to their mailbox, timetable, and applications, and that enrolling in chosen classes, finding accommodation and – a little later perhaps – sitting down to the right exam at the right time will be as easy as the glossy brochures promised.

In practice, for these processes to complete within days requires an ITSM effort that most commercial organisations would struggle to equal, and relies heavily on the right level of automation in the underlying toolset. From provisioning, change and access management to identity checks and management reporting, each establishment aims to complete this monumental exercise as rapidly as possible and with minimum disruption.

In this meeting for members from the Higher Education sector, group chair Mark Temple draws on his own experiences of on-boarding and the University of Glasgow’s underpinning support processes for this and other key events in the University calendar (24 hour Exam support being one hot topic).

This will be an interactive event and participants are invited to share their particular take on this subject.
