Within the IT Services team at Birmingham University, it became clear that not having a formal Service Management function, especially around Service Design, was holding them back. They were struggling to deliver new and innovative services to the University because there simply wasn’t a structured practice in place. No dedicated resources, no process ownership, and no framework for ongoing improvement. To address this gap, Service Design as a practice was established with a dedicated process owner as part of the wider Service Management Team.
The Lead Design Architect embedded the use of the newly developed Service Design Package within ServiceNow, iteratively and continually improving the tooling to underpin the Service Design process and to build the function from the ground up aligning with related processes and establishing ServiceNow as the authoritative source for all things Service Design at the University.
