Masterclass – DevOps Simulation

People need to understand your change if they are going to lead it. To gain buy-in for transformation, leaders have to be able to clearly articulate the reason for change, the desired end-state, and demonstrate the new way of working for individuals and teams.
What’s the most effective way to show them? Let people do it and experience the difference DevOps delivers!
What are the key benefits of attending?
Our real-world role-based simulation brings to life the challenges teams face when working in silos. It reflects the ‘old normal’, where people work in isolation and struggle to deliver value to the customer. Through a cycle of continuous improvement, the participants discover for themselves ways to improve:
- Their ability to collaborate
- The practices they use
- The processes they rely on
- The technology that enables them
- Their overall performance
What will it involve?
Game play with DevOps practices widely recognised as the foundation to a company’s digital transformation, successful adoption is a necessity. The largest single barrier to this is organisational culture.
The award-winning DevOps simulation is a role-based workshop, focused on the software development and deployment lifecycle. Generally 12-25 people take part and split into a number of roles:
- The business
- Product owners
- Scrum masters
- Development teams
- QA
- Service desk
- Release and operations
How does it work?
In three rounds, working across teams, each role completes tasks and reviews their results.
Round 1: Work is badly organised, teams are disconnected and isolated, progress is slow, and errors are frequent and significant. Ultimately the business performs poorly in market.
Round 2: Work is organised, prioritised and tracked. Development, testing, and operations teams are more aligned, identifying errors earlier in the cycle and resolving these quickly. The customer is engaged throughout the process and more value is delivered to the business.
Round 3: Automation and virtualisation technologies deliver greater throughput and increased quality. Technical debt is managed and reduced. Teams are well aligned, not just with each other but with the business.
The simulation game interface tracks real time data:
- Time to deploy
- Number of deployments
- Number and duration of incidents
- Return on investment
- Customer satisfaction
What will be covered?
- How DevOps can increase the stability and throughput of the software development lifecycle
- How to manage work-in-progress
- How the right tools and targeted automation can benefit the organisation
- The importance of thinking as a system and of breaking down silos
- How to deliver quality and value to the customer
