Behind the scenes, 2018 has been a very busy year so far for us. You may remember that we launched EssentialSM at the 2017 conference in Manchester. This new organisation, wholly owned by itSMF UK, was established to enable us to operate flexibly and help bring service management to a wider audience through a variety of new products and services. This is proving to be very successful, although this is taking up a lot of our CEO’s time and, as such, the Board have decided to make some changes to the organisational structure. BT has been granted PSMF Verified Partner status by itSMF UK. The endorsement – the first stage in a major adoption of itSMF’s Professional Service Management Framework (PSMF) – follows a review of BT’s professional development practices, based on a pilot group drawn from across the business. PSMF is a competency model which defines a professional identity for the service management industry, and Verified Partner (VP) status recognises organisation-level commitment to IT service management (ITSM) professionalism. AXELOS, the global custodian of ITIL®, and itSMF UK, the country’s leading association for IT service management professionals, have today reaffirmed their partnership and signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote best practice in IT service management. To meet this goal, and recognizing the diverse and crucial skills required of IT service management professionals, AXELOS and itSMF UK have created the ITIL Experience Award: Collaborating for Success. Two new Directors have been elected to the Board of itSMF UK. Jane Link becomes the Director representing Corporate and Large Enterprise organisations. Jane is a Transition Manager at BT with over 20 years’ experience in ITSM. An ITIL Expert, technician, strategist and evangelist for service management, she has worked for a range of public and private sector organisations and says she is keen to contribute ‘fresh eyes’ to ITSMF UK’s vision and aspirations. Kevin Holland, a SIAM consultant, ITIL examiner and well-known speaker at itSMF UK conferences and events, also joins the Board as the representative for Individual Members.

The qualification scheme, announced at the ITSM16 Conference last November and jointly managed by examination institutes EXIN, BCS and service management start-up Scopism, provides a new opportunity for professional development in a burgeoning area of service management. SIAM is a methodology for managing multiple service providers and integrating them seamlessly to provide high quality, innovative services.
