The role of Key Performance Indicators in managing the contribution of IT to business success

Title:

The role of Key Performance Indicators in managing the contribution of IT to business success

Author:

Category:

Strategies and Other Frameworks

Summary:

IT plays such a central role in supporting today's businesses that it would seem almost essential to develop goals and processes to evaluate how it is contributing to business success. Yet a recent survey of 100 IT directors by IT Business Management (ITBM) software provider, Touchpaper, reveals that many organisations are failing to do this. There is growing evidence to suggest that closely linking IT with business goals can improve business performance. Firms with above-average IT governance have more than 20 percent higher profits that firms with poor governance. In the rest of this report, Touchpaper outlines the approach taken and the questions asked and then provides more detailed information on the research findings.
