Summary:

Information technology, and how it is used and exploited, has a huge influence over whether an organisation performs well or not. As many organisations are under significant pressure to maintain and improve their performance, it is hardly surprising that IT departments are facing diverse and often competing challenges; delivering a range of available and reliable solutions that meet the current needs of the organisation and its customers and developing innovative and timely solutions to support new needs and changing demand and reducing costs.
Many IT departments are having to consider, or have already implemented, changes to their ways of working to address these challenges. Often this includes introducing the IT Infrastructure Library service management processes. Their success will depend not only on being able to implement the necessary changes and realise the benefits, but also on creating an organisation that is willing to make it happen. This paper explores how an IT department can become both able and willing to succeed.
