Moving IT Services into a live environment has long been fraught with danger and whilst the days of “throwing a new service over the fence” may be long gone (in most companies) there is still a prevailing danger point at Service Transition. Whilst there is case for saying any and all stages in the lifecycle of an IT Service are the most key – there can be a stronger case for that point where that Service begins to work in anger as it moves into a live environment.

Service Transition is not only a vital part of the IT Service Lifecycle but is also a business priority. Any delays, issues or fall back that is due to poor Service Transition can have a real business impact. Because of this those working in this area have the opportunity to improve the way their business works. Service Transition should be the enabler that acts to solve key dilemmas faced by those in Design and those in Operations.
