Suresh did a great presentation at the itSMF UK conference setting out what we need to do and what the consequences of bad governance can be. If you you have access to the conference slides it is worth looking through!

I agree with Martin - the presentation at ITSM14 was very useful. I particularly liked Suresh’s slide about the differences between management and governance, which I think is a key topic.

Where I have seen governance be ineffective in the past, it’s often been because the scope and objective of governance has not been clearly defined or understood and so governance has been confused with the management review process and/or programme management progress reviews. Ensuring that there is clarity about the purpose of the Governance Board ensures that it has the focus and accountability that is needed.
