There has been a marked convergence in many organisations recently between the process-based world of ITIL and the more agile techniques typified by DevOps. This coming together of minds, addressing the challenges facing both the operations and development environments, has also been highlighted in the ITIL Practitioner guidance, the first significant addition to the ITIL core since 2011 and in many ways the most distinctive.
The guiding principles of the ITIL Practitioner, including metrics and measurements, organisational change management, communication and CSI, are by no means incompatible with the underlying principles of DevOps, with its less structured and highly flexible focus on experience-based smart working.
But how can users most successfully combine the practically oriented view of ITIL espoused by the Practitioner with the flexibility of DevOps? Which approach is best in what circumstances, and is the 'fail fast, recover quickly' philosophy of DevOps appropriate to organisations that have invested heavily in ITIL to provide the true resilience demanded by their businesses?
This free member event, featuring ITIL authors Stuart Rance and Barclay Rae, AXELOS ITSM lead Kaimar Karu, ITIL Practitioner training expert Barry Corless and organisational transformation expert Christian Tijsmans, offers a unique range of perspectives of the ITIL Practitioner and DevOps, underlining the real strengths that each approach brings to the table and assessing the importance of the Practitioner for learning and certification for current and future needs.
