ISO/IEC 20000 standard: the parts explained
Four parts of the ISO/IEC 20000 standard are now available from the bookshop, with one more in development:
Part 1 (BS ISO/IEC 20000-1:2005 IT Service Management - Part 1: Specification). A number of mandatory controls, 'shalls' which the IT service provider must do to achieve certification.
Part 2 (BS ISO/IEC 20000-2:2005 IT Service Management - Part 2: Code of practice). Advice and guidance on what the IT service provider 'should' do to achieve the 'shalls' of Part 1.
Part 3 (ISO/IEC 20000 part 3: Guidance on scope definition and applicability of ISO/IEC 20000-1). Practical advice on scoping of service management, the applicability of Part 1 to the service provider and advice on conformity assessments.
Part 4. A Process Reference Model (in development).
Part 5 (PD ISO/IEC TR 20000 Part 5: 2010: An exemplar implementation plan). Guidance for service providers on how to implement a service management system to fulfil the requirements of Part 1.
