Our bookshop and membership stands were again very popular at this year's Service Desk and IT Support Show show in Olympia last month, taking record orders for the new Key Element Guides to ITIL V3. The chair of the Qualifications and Certifications executive sub-committee, Rosemary Gurney, gave a presentation on the latest news regarding ITIL V2 and ITIL V3 qualifications including advice on the bridging exam and credit scheme which was very well attended.

Megan Pendlebury, Service Management Executive, also presented on the topic of service level management and participated in a demonstration of ITIL V3 simulations. The simulation showcase was run twice with high attendance levels on both days and demonstrated how useful simulation games can be in explaining ITIL concepts and processes in a fun, interactive way. More simulation showcases are planned nationally, the next ones being in June and September (details to be announced soon).

Megan joins other industry experts to speak at this year's Support Manager's Forum at the end of May. The event, organised by TSANet, will provide delegates with the opportunity to learn about future developments affecting support and service professionals and gain new perspectives. Megan's presentation will unveil details of a new joint industry working party between itSMF and TSANet and will look at the relationships between Customers and Suppliers and how working together in a partnership can be beneficial to both parties. A white paper is in the process of being jointly authored by the two parties to help individuals understand some of the drivers from the other side of the relationship and how improving their own working practices can lead to a better quality and smoother service provision.

Ben Clacy, Business Development Manager, and Megan will be presenting on the importance of Software Asset Management within Service Management at the free SAM Scotland 2008 events in Glasgow and Edinburgh in May. The two half day sessions supported by itSMF UK will also cover practical advice on assessing and establishing licence compliance and a unique insight into new SAM tools with opportunities to talk informally with the experts and share experiences with other delegates.

The next big show attended by itSMF UK is the joint event with BCS which is also being held at Olympia in London this summer. The two day event, entitled the Powerhouse of Service Management, offers presentations, seminars and workshops on the implementation of configuration management systems and databases and will provide examples of success stories and advice on these areas.
