I have defined and implemented various Transition processes, and have managed service delivery (Infrastructure, Development). An ITIL Expert and in itSMF for 2 years, I'm now on the Transition SIG, lined up to deliver an itSMF seminar, and contributing to 'Back2ITSM'. I'd like to help events contribute to wider ITSM learning.

1985 - 1998 Exposed to IT departments and customers providing 3rd Party services and ICT Infrastructure design and hardware maintenance, contractual service agreements. ITIL® would call these Underpinning Contracts and the 4th P, Partner/ Supplier Management.
1998 Exposed to ITIL® through Paul Rappaport and colleagues whilst working at Ultracomp. Paul was inspirational with ITIL® and the itSMF has given continued recognition with the Paul Rappaport Award. Paul was also inspiration to many people including myself, during my time at Ultracomp, and that inspiration has continued in me. Whist ITIL® was relatively new to the markets in the 90's, those that people exposed to ITIL® v1 recognised its value and the benefits it would deliver the business. From my experience of IT as an external supplier I cognised ITIL® worked for an internal IT organisation but for many external IT managed service organisations, service management wasn't a great fit. Since then, ITIL® has developed and matured with the release of ITIL® 2011. This update recognises the provision of IT services to the business can be managed through internal or external resources, or a mixture of both. The need for seamless services with high IT availability to meet the demands of the business is as important now as they were in the 80's however with today complexities of IT and many suppliers to service the IT, in some cases on a global basis, the need for Service Management to manage IT is greater than ever.
The itSMF and their regional forums are an excellent platform for members (customers and suppliers) to openly discuss their issues and create debate about how IT can be managed in the future with todays and tomorrow's technologies. ITIL® 2011 will also create great debate enabling the framework to further develop in the management of IT services, and better understanding external partners and how they manage your IT behind closed doors.
It's for these reason I will continue to support the itSMF and attend regional meeting, however if I can assist, support and influence the forum in the position of vice chair for future events, I will be honoured to take on this role and its responsibility with great pride, and with the backing of Sysop, my employer.
