Simon Redding, the Environment Agency of England & Wales

Simon Redding is the Sustainable ICT Lead for the Environment Agency of England & Wales. He represents the Agency on a number of industry and government panels and is also the lead for ensuring sustainability elements are considered within the Agency's own outsourced service arrangements.

 

"Sustainability Opportunities in commissioning & managing ICT Services":

This session will briefly cover aspects of purchasing, managing & operating an ICT service which can have a sustainability impact (either positive or negative).

 

John Godwin, Attenda

John is Head of Compliance & Business Services at Attenda, and is responsible for all of Attenda’s Management Systems (ISO9001, ISO20000 and ISO27001), as well as a portfolio of vendor certifications and standards. He is also responsible for Business Continuity Management (being a member of the Business Continuity Institute), ensuring preparedness for any unplanned business interruptions.

Within the last few years, he has assumed responsibility for corporate environmental initiatives, including achievement of CarbonNeutral® Company status, and developing and launching a carbon offset programme for Attenda’s clients. His interest and passion in this important area contributed to his election as Chairman of the itSMF’s Sustainable IT Service Management Special Interest Group in 2009.

 

“The Sustainable IT Service Management Special Interest Group”

In response to a number of expressions of interest from members, the itSMF established the Sustainable IT Service Management Special Interest Group in 2009 to identify and progress sustainability related issues that affect us all within the IT Service Management industry. With a Working Group drawn from many different companies and sectors at its core, we have agreed a number of short, medium and long term objectives, and are pleased to be able to report good progress with these even in our early days. Today’s presentation will provide more information on the Group and its activities, how these will help itSMF members, and provide details of how you can become involved.

 

John Windebank, Oracle Corporation

John Windebank is a specialist in IT Service Management (ITIL) strategy, with far ranging practical experience in IT outsourcing, IT Project and Programme Management and service contract negotiation. Focussing on enabling clients to achieve the right "real world" blend of leading IT and business good practices in service and project management to deliver tangible business benefits.  John’s role as Principal Solution Architect for Oracle’s Global Data Centre Modernisation services practice focuses on enabling Oracle's customers to maximise their IT operational efficiency, effectiveness and agility through the adoption of effective IT Service Management strategies across IT and Data Centre Facilities environments.  Outside of Sun, John is highly active within the IT service management community, recently holding Management Board roles of International Director of itSMF UK and Chair of Publications ESC, and also as author, contributor and reviewer of various ITIL related publications and active member of the “Sustainable IT Service Management” Special Interest Group.

 

"The CRC Efficiency Scheme"

This white paper was produced by itSMF UK's Sustainable IT Service Management Special Interest Group. It aims to provide an overview, for those in the UK IT Service Management (ITSM) community, of the general objectives and shape of the UK Government CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme, and of how ITSM could be required to play a significant part in an organisation's ongoing CRC performance.

 

Ian Salvage, ITAdapt Consultancy Ltd

Ian cut his teeth in IT too many years ago to mention, and in the last ten years, has been an expert in the field of service management, offering advice and guidance to many companies. He has more recently specialised in areas of governance, strategy and business and IT integration. In 2007, Ian achieved a first class honours degree in Environmental Studies from the Open University, and has since been using this expertise to supplement his existing speciality areas. he is a frequent speaker at events and is currently writing a book on the link between service management and environmental sustainability, due for release in the second half of 2010.

 

“Finding the link between service management and environmental sustainability”

What are the fundamental links between service management and environmental sustainability that drive the need to evolve the best practice advice in ITIL (Reg) V3? And how big a deal is this evolution? The session will build an answer to these questions, using real-life experiences to illustrate the current and future reality. It will offer advice as to where you might start to build environmental considerations into your service management practices.

 

Nathan Wimble, European Director – The CarbonNeutral Company

Nathan joined The CarbonNeutral Company in 2007 as a senior member of the business development team, and now heads up the team in Europe focused on helping leading businesses understand and reduce their carbon footprint. Before joining The CarbonNeutral Company, Nathan held lead commercial positions at FT Business, Reed Elsevier and Williams Lea.  Among other roles, Nathan has been responsible for launching a new high net worth private investor event, a new industry sector of the UK’s leading international food and drink exhibition and establishing a partnership approach for a global operation specialising in business process outsourcing.

 

“Carbon offsetting for ITSM: Engaging customers through Emissions Reductions”

What is the latest scientific view on the climate change challenge and what role does the IT industry have in reducing global emissions? Within this context, what are the drivers to reducing emissions and how can businesses benefit from taking on stretching reduction targets? This session will look at how incorporating carbon management into ITSM practices can not only align with customer expectations but future-proof businesses in a low carbon economy. Specifically, the session will look at how carbon credits are generated with examples of how they have been used in corporate environments to achieve strategic environmental objectives.
