Welcome to the Education SIG

The Education SIG includes interested parties in UK education; mainly Higher and Further Education.

Using Service Management Practices is likely to mature within education over the coming years. Some Institutions have been developing Service Management practices for some time; others are just beginning the journey. The aims of the SIG are mainly:

  • To promote the use of IT Service Management Practices for those who provide IT services to their Institutions, taking account those who have mature practices and those who are just starting out;
  • To encourage Institutions to develop academic programmes based on IT Service Management Practices. This includes all levels of programme development from undergraduate to postgraduate level.

The SIG has already started to produce its first collateral, under the stewardship of a Working Party. The collateral is based on IT Service Management material which is relevant, appropriate and in language suitable for education. This will consider organisational issues, culture, structure and sector challenges.

Providing networking and promotional activities for Education Members as implementations mature is a key aim of the SIG. The SIG will provide a forum for inclusiveness and camaraderie with a friendly approach in support of member's activities. Key themes in SIG meetings will be facilitated by industry and education experts. The SIG will explore and publish best-of-breed material as and when it is able.

Working collaboratively and professionally with other education organisations who work alongside education will be essential. This is to avoid any possible duplication of work .The SIG has a Working Party which aims to:

  • Establishing an action plan so that the core needs of education members are met;
  • Develop channels so that those interested in IT Service Management issues in education can communicate with each other in a professional forum;
  • Ensure that the core IT Service Management material is used in the spirit of its intent within education.
