Using ITIL to achieve IT savings

Title: Using ITIL to achieve IT savings
Topic/Stream: Lessons Learned
Presentation Synopsis: We've seen and heard of the benefits that successful ITIL implementations can bring. But, in today's climate, vague promises of improved service quality or business agility are not enough. We are all under extreme pressure to achieve real, tangible, reductions in IT spend.
This presentation focusses on practical uses of ITIL to deliver IT cost savings. Examples will be included of how to avoid the aspects of ITSM implementations that can sometimes actually inadvertently contribute to IT inefficiency by focussing on compliance to process rather than achieving the right outcome or the organisation.
ITIL and the IT Service Management community (of which I like to think that I am part of!) have aligned IT with the business and enabled real value from IT. However, there are times when the perceived benefits can get a little theoretical and academic. This is a roll the sleeves up, harsh look at the reality of where to focus if you want to really contribute to spending less on IT.
