Biography
Description of Role and Responsibilities:
I recently moved into this role after being the administrator for the Institute of IT Service Management so there are still a few things that are fairly new for me.
My main responsibilities so far are opening new customer accounts, posting invoices, dealing with credit notes, checking bank statements, inputting staff expenses and dealing with supplier invoices.
Average Day:
When I first arrive in the morning I back-up the Sage software and reconcile our PDF credit card machine and check to see what emails I have - often queries about invoices, whether or not I can send copies of our invoices to our customers or whether or not an invoice has been paid. I then tend to do some accounting administration which involves various accounting duties such as updating our customer's records if they have moved address, offsetting invoices with credit card payments and updating purchase orders.
In the afternoon I tend to deal with any payment that has been received from our customers such as cheques or remittance advice, I then offset the payment from their account. I input this information into a spreadsheet and inform members of staff that payment has been received so they can then update their records.
I also chase customers for bad debt which involves either sending people emails or phoning their accounts department to see when payments will be made.
What do you enjoy most?
I really enjoy learning new ways of accounting and the processes behind them and chasing bad debt which can be both frustrating and challenging!
