David Lynch
IT Services Manager

Biography
Description of Role and Responsibilities:
As IT Services Manager, I have to deal with all aspects of IT and telecoms for the business such as budgeting, procuring, installing, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting. I have to manage the IT service, making sure we have sufficient capacity for growth, the systems are available when they need to be and plan for the future.
The role is very hands-on so every day I'll be dealing with user issues, whether that's training, bug fixing or implementing change, systems design and development and monitoring.
Being one of the former website developers of the itSMF UK, ISO/IEC 20000 and IoSM websites when the current versions were created a few years ago, I'm able to still be very hands-on with coding, bug fixing and testing of those websites and dealing with any functional issues such as members who can't login or staff requiring training on admin functionality.
Average Day:
I usually start my day by checking the logs of the tasks and processes that ran the previous evening and through the night for errors. Typically these include monitoring the backup system and the websites. I then move on to my email and log any incidents or change requests that have come in either by internal staff or website users. System monitoring and incident logging will then continue throughout the day along with resolving any issues users are having or carrying out changes they require.
What do you enjoy most?
The variety - I have to deal with all IT and telecoms issues which means I'm exposed to quite an array of IT hardware and software.
