Daniel McLaren
Events Executive

Biography
Description of Role and Responsibilities:
I work with the Events Manager and Events Administrator to provide a fluid events calendar for all itSMF members. My main responsibilities are organising Seminars (venue selection, speakers and catering), co-ordinating various Special Interest Group meetings and being the itSMF contact for the Exhibition side of our Annual Conference. I also look after the sponsorship of the Conference as well as working with the team to come up with new ideas for future events to continually improve on what we provide.
Average Day:
The day usually starts with me checking my emails, as many come in after our working hours from other countries or people working late. I then respond to any queries people have made by both email and phone during the day. Part of the day is then spent chasing people/companies for Exhibition paperwork (risk assessments, synopses, etc) or sending out Invitations and Final Instructions for the SIGs and Seminars. I am not in the office everyday, visits to sponsors and venues are a welcome break from the norm and an important part of the role.
What do you enjoy most?
My main passion in events is coming up with new ideas and having the freedom to be creative in my work. I also really enjoy being on-site and involved in the buzz of the event from the first build to when it all comes down. That buzz is what most people are in the industry for. I also love being involved in sponsorship and marketing, the more creative side of events, it is great being able to take something and see how your ideas work and evolve to help the events become even more successful.
